Belizean Folklore Legends

 Here is a list of Belizean folklore legends:

La Llorona

In English, La Llorona translates to "The Weeping Woman." La Llorona is said to be a tall, thin and beautiful woman with long black hair.

She roams the rivers and creeks, wailing in search of children to lure into the jungle, hoping they would get lost and never find their way back home.

La Llorona is also known for luring young men into the jungle on their way home from late-night bars. Parents, fearing for their son's life, would warn them not to stay out late drinking. La Llorona would lure these young me deep into the forest, where she would reveal her ugly and distorted face, followed by a scream. The young men would then immediately die or become sick for weeks.

Tata Duende

In English, Tata Duende translates to "Grandfather Demon." Tata Duende is an old and short man with four fingers on each hand and backward-pointing feet.

Tata Duende is known for cutting the thumbs of people who have five fingers on each hand. 

Parents also warn their children that if they misbehave, Tata Duende would take them.

Tata Duende is sometimes blamed for things like crop failures around a farm and braiding a horse's hair.

Sisemite

Sisemite is said to be a tall and hairy Bigfoot-like creature. Sisemite is thought to be living in the extensive cave network in Belize and survives off raw meat from jungle animals.

Sisemite is known for kidnapping young women and forcing them to live with him and bear his children. Mothers, fearing for their daughters, would warn them not to stay out late when washing clothes.

Sisemite is also known for killing men.
